El origen de Pingus.

Peter Sisseck, Pingus para los amigos, llegó a la Ribera del Duero hace más de 20 años para trabajar en Hacienda Monasterio. En cuanto se dio cuenta de las enormes posibilidades de la uva tinto fino decidió emprender un nuevo proyecto en solitario sin saber que iba a tener un éxito sin precedentes. Se hizo con cinco hectáreas de viñedos de más de 60 años entre Pesquera y Roa, un puñado de barricas francesas de la mejor calidad y, bajo el nombre de su apodo de juventud, cambió la historia del vino español para siempre. La verdadera leyenda de Pingus comenzó cuando que la mayor parte de las botellas de su añada de debut, en el año 1995, consiguió 98 puntos Parker, destinadas al mercado norteamericano se hundieron en el barco que las transportaba. A partir de ese momento la exclusividad de este vino se disparó hasta límites insospechados y, superando en precio a LErmita de Álvaro Palacios, se convirtió en el vino más caro de España. Los 100 puntos concedidos por Robert Parker a la añada 2004 y la aparición en el mercado de otras dos referencias más asequibles, Psi y el soberbio Flor de Pingus, consagraron definitivamente a Dominio de Pingus, el pequeño gran tesoro de la Ribera del Duero.

Historia de un visionario.

Peter Sisseck nació en Dinamarca en 1962. Su relación con el mundo del vino en general, y en particular con Burdeos, le viene a través de su tío, Peter Vinding-Diers, conocido enólogo de la zona y propietario de un par de "châteaux" en la región de Graves: Domaine La Grave y Château de Landiras. En la década de los 80 Peter comenzó a ayudar a su tío, quien en ese momento estaba revolucionando la producción de blancos con su trabajo en el Château Rahoul. Después de haber ayudado a su tío en la gran añada de 1982 terminó su carrera de ingeniero agrónomo a mitad de los años 80. Después de sus estudios se fué a California, concretamente a la bodega Simi, en Sonoma, donde vió el contrapunto tecnológico americano, bastante diferente y con más manipulación que lo que conocía de Francia. A principios de los 90 acabó en la Ribera del Duero para hacerse cargo de la dirección técnica de una nueva bodega: Hacienda Monasterio. Durante sus estancias en Burdeos, Sisseck contactó con el grupo de gente más animado de la zona, entre ellos estaba Jean-Luc Thunevin, famoso por haber iniciado el movimiento de "vinos de garaje" con su Valandraud. Otro de sus amigos, comerciante de vinos, proclama en su catálogo "beberé leche cuando las vacas coman uvas". Al verse cada vez más interesado por este nuevo movimiento revolucionario y sus nuevos vinos, y según referencias como Angélus, Le Pin, Cheval Blanc y Valandraud en el propio Burdeos, y Domaines Leroy, Dominique Laurent o el gran Henri Jayer en Borgoña, Sisseck se decidió a hacer algo fuera del estilo Hacienda Monasterio. Y aquí surgió Pingus. Pingus es ni más ni menos que el apodo de infancia de Peter, y es hoy en día, y con todos los honores, uno de los principales exponentes de estos "vinos de garaje".
