Cuando Jorge comenzó en el mundo de la exportación a finales de los años 80, el mercado estadounidense estaba dominado únicamente por sherrys de bajo precio y riojas de corte extremadamente clásico. Al haberse criado en el seno de una familia malagueña dedicada a la distribución de vinos, Jorge Ordóñez comenzó a conocer desde muy joven los entresijos de este negocio, desde los aspectos más básicos como cargar camiones hasta ser capaz de cerrar los contratos más complejos. Jorge ha sabido revitalizar y modernizar los procesos de elaboración de vino en España poniendo en valor las viñas más antiguas o disminuyendo los rendimientos sin perder por ello el carácter de los vinos de su tierra. También fue el primero en introducir en los paladares estadounidenses el Albariño, el Txakoli o la Godello. Robert Parker, lo ha nombrado en dos ocasiones Personalidad del Vino en EE.UU y en nuestro país ha obtenido también otros reconocimientos como el Premio Nacional de Gastronomía Víctor de la Serna. El Grupo Ordóñez trabaja con 7 proyectos:

Su filosofía.

Desde 1987, la cruzada personal de Jorge Ordóñez ha sido buscar y salvaguardar la rica y larga historia de viticultura y elaboración de vinos en España. Como la mayor región cultivadora de vid de la Tierra, España ha estado cultivando viñas y elaborando vinos durante milenios. El objetivo de Jorge es apoyar y conservar la riqueza de variedades de uvas autóctonas de su tierra. Su filosofía se basa en la creencia de que el potencial de España reside en la abundancia de viejos viñedos plantados con los clones más antiguos de variedades autóctonas. Desafortunadamente, la tendencia en España es replantar muchos de esos viejos viñedos con clones más productivos y variedades internacionales, en espalderas. Jorge Ordóñez Selections combate esta dinámica defendiendo una manera de hacer vino que encarne nuestra filosofía: lo que hace única a España es su vasta historia de viticultura y enología, y una riqueza y variedad de viejos viñedos de variedades autóctonas.
