Todo un personaje en el mundo del vino, Walter Massa es considerado hoy un maestro de la enología italiana. El territorio y las variedades autóctonas han sido un cometido principal a lo largo de su vida, y su vino Timorasso, un extraordinario blanco de Colli di Tortona, entre el Piamonte y Lombardía, se ha convertido en un vino de culto en Italia. Reacio a las guías y a las clasificaciones, Walter Massa se ha enfrentado a su trabajo con una extraordinaria creatividad y una gran fidelidad al viñedo y a su sostenibilidad, con el objetivo de ofrecer con cada una de sus botellas la máxima calidad y la más alta representación del terroir y de la vid.

Mineralidad en los vinos.

Enemigo de todas las formas de burocracia y siempre a contracorriente, Walter está convencido de que el vino se elabora en la viña y en la bodega y no con marcas y documentos, por esta razón decidió no utilizar una denominación para muchas de sus etiquetas, gracias a su reputación consolidada como verdadero artesano del vino. La característica esencial de los vinos de Walter Massa es la mineralidad. No es una mineralidad a la moda que persiga las tendencias del mercado, sino una mineralidad imperiosa y decidida. Una mineralidad clara y vertical en la primera juventud de sus vinos, más majestuosa y solemne a lo largo de los años, cuando el vino se revela cada vez más grande, más dorado y con una trama de hidrocarburos que sólo los vinos más exclusivos pueden conceder. En la bodega Massa, en la Tortona, son ya cuatro las generaciones que encierran en cada botella la historia de una cosecha y de un cru, gracias a una crianza sobre lías, y solamente en depósitos de acero, que da lugar a un vino de gran personalidad. La piedra angular de la producción de Walter Massa está representada por Timorasso, que con el nombre de Derthona se ha establecido en toda Italia como un vino blanco típico del Colli Tortonesi. Sin embargo, también hay excelentes vinos tintos, producidos con Freisa, Barbera o Croatina, en este caso son vinos únicos y poco convencionales, el resultado del dominio y el talento creativo de Walter Massa: Perlas enológicas reales de un territorio con muy alta potencial.
