Proyecto internacional.

Embajadora de Bourgogne y de la pinot noir, la Maison Joseph Drouhin nació para dedicarse al comercio de vinos y pronto se convirtió en una de las grandes casas elaboradoras. La cuarta generación continúa trabajando sin perder de vista la historia, el terroir y el equilibrio entre ambos. En 1880, un joven Joseph Drouhin de 22 años se trasladó desde su Chablis natal a Beaune, adquirió los derechos de una casa comercial fundada en 1756 y le dio su nombre. Su hijo Maurice heredó la bodega en 1918 y compró las primeras tierras, situadas en las prestigiosas parcelas Clos des Mouches y Clos de Vougeot. En 1957, Maurice falleció y, con tan solo 24 años, su hijo adoptivo Robert se hizo cargo de la Maison y fue quien le dio la envergadura internacional actual. Desde el 2003 la Maison está gestionada por los cuatro hijos de Robert Drouhin: Laurent Drouhin, embajador de la marca y director del mercado de Estados Unidos; Frédéric Drouhin, presidente ejecutivo; Philippe Drouhin, encargado de los viñedos; y Véronique Drouhin, la enóloga.
Elaboran en cerca de 90 denominaciones de origen diferentes repartidas en 73 hectáreas, la mayoría de ellas cultivadas siguiendo los preceptos biodinámicos. La Maison Joseph Drouhin ofrece una fantástica panorámica de la complejidad de Bourgogne.

Las tierras.

En 2008, agruparon 38 hectáreas bajo el nombre Drouhin-Vaudon, en homenaje al viejo molino del s. XVIII, situado a orillas del río Serein, que fue restaurado para convertirse en la bodega de referencia de los Drouhin en Chablis. En la Côte de Nuits y la Côte de Beaune, Drouhin posee 32 ha de parcelas propias situadas en los viñedos más prestigiosos del corazón de Bourgogne: 0,23 ha en el Grand Cru Bonnes Mares, 0,13 ha en el Grand Cru Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, 0,59 ha en Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Amoureuses, 2 parcelas de 0,9 ha en el Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot compradas por Maurice Drouhin, 0,41 ha en Échézeaux Grand Cru, 0,47 ha en Grands Échézeaux Grand Cru y 14 ha del famoso Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches, plantado con pinot noir y chardonnay, una rareza en Bourgogne. En Macônnais poseen 3 ha en propiedad y también elaboran en la Côte Chalonnaise y el Beaujolais, aunque aquí prefieren trabajar con viticultores locales. Llevan más de 20 años practicando la viticultura biodinámica, respetando los depredadores naturales, aplicando infusiones y labrando con caballos. Philippe y Véronique supervisan diariamente la evolución del vino y visitan los viñedos para comprobar que todo sigue su curso según los preceptos biodinámicos.

Las cavas.

Drouhin cuenta con diferentes cavas emplazadas en emblemáticos edificios de Beaune. La más conocida es la bodega de los Duques de Bourgogne, una enorme bóveda de piedra que forma parte de un edificio construido en el s. XV y que hoy acoge el Museo del Vino. Allí es donde, actualmente, se guarda el Marc de Bourgogne, destilado a partir de los orujos del Clos des Mouches. En la Rue d’Enfer, en el casco histórico de Beaune, se encuentra la Maison Diénat, la casa matriz de Drouhin en la Côte d’Or. Junto a la Basílica de Beaune, en la Collégiale Notre-Dame, los Drouhin tienen expuesta una prensa manual del s. XVI, reliquia que utilizan, excepcionalmente, para la elaboración del Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches. La vinificación se realiza aprovechando las levaduras del propio viñedo y con bazuqueos suaves, una idea que Robert Drouhin ya defendía durante la década de 1980 para no alterar la naturaleza aromática de la pinot noir. La crianza de los vinos se realiza en barricas de roble francés.

Proyectos.

En los años 1980 crearon Domaine Drouhin en Oregon, donde decidieron instalarse y plantar pinot noir y chardonnay en Dundee Hills. El siguiente paso, también en Oregon, pero en la región sur de Eola-Amity Hills en Willamette Valley, llegó con RoseRock. Dos proyectos paralelos donde elaboran blancos y tintos con la frescura y finura que caracterizan los vinos de Bourgogne. Una familia que busca la máxima calidad en cada una de las etapas, del viñedo a la botella.

Historia.

Fundada en Beaune en 1880, la bodega Joseph Drouhin se amplió con las históricas bodegas de los duques de Borgoña y de los reyes de Francia en Beaune (siglos XII-XVIII) hasta el Moulin de Vaudon, un molino del siglo XVIII en Chablis. El Moulin de Vaudon, propiedad de Joseph Drouhin, es un molino de agua del siglo XVIII que se extiende sobre el río Serein, cerca de las grandes cosechas de Chablis. Gracias a su ubicación única en el corazón de un viñedo de 38 hectáreas, este histórico molino es la sede de Domaine Drouhin en Chablis. El Dominio ha sido construido a lo largo de los años, gracias a las compras juiciosas y a los acuerdos entre familias. Algunos de los viñedos más famosos de Borgoña se encuentran ahí, como Clos des Mouches, Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche, Musigny, Clos de Vougeot, Corton-Charlemagne, etc. Desde la cosecha 2008, el nombre "Vaudon" se asocia a Joseph Drouhin para todos sus vinos Chablis, una muestra del compromiso de la empresa con este histórico terruño. Hoy en día, es la cuarta generación que dirige la finca. Todos tienen un papel que desempeñar en la imposición de la "Carta de Excelencia" familiar. La atención al detalle, el rigor, la disciplina, el deseo de aprender, el sentido de los valores, la pasión y la audacia son cualidades que se han transmitido de generación en generación, por no hablar del arte de la elaboración del vino y de la búsqueda constante de la calidad.
