En el corazon de Ribeira Sacra.

Algueira es una empresa familiar que comenzó en 1980 con Fernando y su esposa Ana. Empezaron con unos pocos viñedos, una pequeña bodega y mucho trabajo por delante. En 1998 crearon la marca Algueira y construyeron una nueva bodega que pudiese afrontar los nuevos desafíos que tenían la intención de asumir. A través de los años, la compañía de Fernando y Ana ha crecido hasta convertirse en una galardonada bodega intencional que ayudó a poner a Ribera Sacra en el mapa, tanto en la industria del vino como en la del turismo del vino en Galicia.

La primera viña.

Mi primera viña: año 1979. La viña de Carballo Cobo. El abandono, viñas olvidadas sobre estructuras de piedras que el hombre en el pasado con sus manos ordenó hasta conseguir hacer bancales que resisten el paso del tiempo, a orillas del río Sil, formando un paisaje único y mágico que me atrapa, al igual que a nuestros antepasados. Impresionado por las cepas, desafiando la pendiente, manteniendo el equilibrio, trabajando con el viento, la lluvia, el sol, la luna, las estrellas, sobre un colchón de pizarra, busco que las cepas puedan producir unos miserables racimos de uva, al transformarlos en vino, nace nuestro primer Algueira, una enorme emoción que me motiva a seguir la escalada en la montaña, plantando y recuperando el antiguo viñedo tapado por el bosque, apasionándome con el paisaje. En el año 2000, fruto de esto, nace nuestro primer vino de crianza. Esta parcela espectacular, y de escasa producción, sería ruinoso hacer un vino joven, que en aquel momento era lo que se elaboraba mayoritariamente en la región, con la creencia generalizada de que esta zona no podía hacer vinos de crianza, añejos y longevos. Así nacen Pizarra y Carravel. Nuestra zona, Doade, en el pasado se valoraba mucho por sus tintos, potentes y gruesos, y además también era valorado por sus vinos blancos. En la viña de Carballo Cobo, plantamos además Godello, variedad que en un suelo mineral, soleado, y con escasez de agua producía mostos estructurados y complejos ideales para hacer un vino blanco gastronómico. El resultado es ESCALADA, el primer Godello sobre lías que se hace en la viña de Escalada. Animados por el resultado decidimos apostar fuerte por los blancos. La idea era hacer un vino joven ligero y afrutado. Es entonces cuando decido cruzar el río, huyendo de la orientación sur, y comprar suelo en la Abeleda, Ourense. En la RS apenas se plantaban por entonces variedades blancas y esta zona, con un clima fresco y suave, orientado hacia el suroeste, parecía la ideal. Adquirimos la parcela de Cortezada, lindando con el río Edo, pero estaba abandonada y cubierta de bosque. Una vez limpia y recuperados los bancales, descubrimos una auténtica joya arquitectónica. Esta Parcela tiene 20.000 m2 y el suelo está construído sobre los escombros de piedra de la carretera de Castro Caldelas; pizarra y gneis sin apenas tierra. En esta parcela plantamos tres variedades que intuimos que podrían hacer un vino complejo: Godello (estructura), Treixadura (frescura) y Albariño (acidez). Así nace después de varios años de trabajo nuestro vino CORTEZADA.

Los viñedos y el clima.

- Los viñedos.En las montañas de la Ribera sacra se encuentran todos nuestros viñedos, algunos de ellos con una espectacular pendiente de 85 grados junto a las orillas del río Sil. Trabajamos solo con variedades nativas, y basamos nuestra producción enteramente en uvas de nuestros propios viñedos, que se benefician de las condiciones excepcionales del microclima para la producción de uvas de primera calidad de calidad gallega. También trabajamos con una amplia gama de uvas, ya sean variedades blancas como Godello, Treixadura, Albariño y Loureiro o uvas rojas como Mencía, Caíño, Sousón, Brancellao y Merenzao. Nuestro primer objetivo es priorizar la calidad sobre la cantidad, creando así un vino genuino que remarca la identidad única de esta región.
- El clima. La diversidad es la clave de nuestro clima. La viticultura de montaña es caprichosa, las laderas ondulan en diferentes orientaciones siguiendo el sinuoso río, lo que causa una gran riqueza microclimática. Gracias a la inclinación de las pendientes, es posible encontrar en el mismo punto del río dos laderas enfrentadas, con orientaciones opuestas. Dos temperaturas diferentes, dos climas diferentes. A lo largo del curso del río, estas dos orientaciones varían prácticamente cubriendo todos los puntos cardinales. Diferentes orientaciones para diferentes perfiles de vino.
