Guillermo Eguren, nuestro padre, se considera, ante todo, un coleccionista de viñedos. Y así lo hemos interpretado sus hijos, Marcos y Miguel Eguren, quienes hemos hecho de la excelencia en el cuidado del viñedo y el máximo respeto al fruto en la bodega nuestra filosofía para obtener unos vinos que perduran en el tiempo, llamados a ser nuevos clásicos, que ensamblan fruta, potencia y estructura con elegancia, frescura y sutileza. Vinos que se adscriben a los nuevos clásicos: Vinos que perduran en el tiempo, que aúnan fruta, potencia y estructura con elegancia, frescura y sutileza. Sierra Cantabria, Viñedos Sierra Cantabria, Señorío de San Vicente y Viñedos de Páganos constituyen sus proyectos en la DOCa. Rioja, a los que hay que sumar su presencia en Toro con la bodega Teso La Monja y Dominio de Eguren para los vinos procedentes de viñedos de las principales zonas vinícolas españolas. El Dominio de Eguren ha querido mantener el buen hacer heredando la tradición familiar de padres a hijos. La familia se dedica al mundo del vino desde 1870. El avance de las últimas tecnologías de vanguardia en el vino han sido adaptadas también por esta bodega, permitiendo a este Dominio crear vinos con un sello personal evidente. La calidad que se refleja en los vinos del Dominio de Eguren no es fruto del azar. Se basa en un viñedo muy generoso, un clima idóneo para la elaboración de estos caldos y una pasión evidente de todas las personas para crear vinos de alta calidad. El propio terreno y su orientación son claves para aprovechar al máximo las tierras de cultivo. Todos estos elementos sumados son los que permiten elaborar un gran vino.
Los viñedos y sus variedades.
Los vinos de Dominio de Eguren proceden de una rigurosa selección de viñedos controlados por nuestra propiedad y situados en una privilegiada zona de Castilla-La Mancha, ubicada cerca de los 700 metros de altitud, con una edad comprendida entre 30-70 años y con una producción controlada. Una zona caracterizada por contar con un clima continental, con influencias mediterráneas por los vientos del Levante, con unos inviernos fríos y unos veranos calurosos, secos y con una elevada luminosidad.
Las altas temperaturas de cada día provocadas por los vientos del poniente, frente al frescor y humedad de la brisa mediterránea nocturna, producen un amplio gradiente térmico, lo que favorece la síntesis de polifenoles a lo largo de un prolongado periodo de maduración. Las precipitaciones son escasas, habitualmente inferiores a los 400 mm anuales. La habitual limitación de lluvias desde mayo hasta septiembre hace que la sanidad de la vendimia sea patente, por lo que son cultivadas de forma prácticamente ecológica. Los viñedos, plantados al “cuadro o marco real” con una densidad cercana a las 1.200 plantas/Ha, están hincadas sobre un suelo arcilloso con una base calcárea, pobre en materia orgánica y capaz de retener el agua de las primeras fases del ciclo vegetativo antes de la llegada de los secos meses estivales. Las variedades cosechadas son la Tempranillo o su sinonimia Cencibel, Bobal, Aíren y Macabeo, perfectamente aclimatadas a esta zona vitivinícola. Son vendimiadas manualmente desde finales de septiembre, siempre bajo la supervisión y los estándares de calidad marcados por la familia Eguren, obteniendo bayas con unos hollejos de una gran carga polifenólica en tintas y terpénica en blancas.
