Bodega.
Castell del Remei es un bodega centenaria en una finca histórica de la denominación de origen Costers del Segre , donde los primeros vestigios de actividad vinícola se remontan al 1780. Es el bodega más antigua de Cataluña en la elaboración y etiquetado de vinos finos de crianza, y también la primera bodega catalana construida según el modelo tipo bordelés de château, es decir, rodeada por viñedos, de las que obtendrá sus uvas. Está dirigida por su propietario, el vitivinicultor Tomàs Cusiné, reconocido enólogo, considerado uno de los mejores ensambladores de vinos. Las características de Castell del Remei, como propiedad vinícola, son tan interesantes como su larga historia, y su valor patrimonial del complejo, completan un conjunto sin parangón en las regiones viticultores del sur de Europa. La propiedad está emplazada en el término municipal de Penelles de la comarca de La Noguera, en Lleida, a unos 100 km del mar Mediterráneo.
El castillo de Remei.
El Castillo del Remei está construido sobre una antigua edificación en la que a finales del siglo XIX la familia Girona, representante de la alta burguesía catalana, confirió la estructura de castillo al añadir los característicos cuatro almenas. En 1939 sufrió los efectos de la explosión de un polvorín si bien las partes afectadas fueron reconstruidas de inmediato. El patio y la planta noble, que conserva el mobiliario y la decoración , nos trasladan a una estética propia de la época.
El edificio es de planta cuadrada con un torreón a cada uno de los ángulos . Tiene tres plantas de distribución diversa. El patio que da la bienvenida y acceso a la capilla es interior y de estilo modernista con baldosa decorativa en las paredes. La planta noble está compuesta por grandes dependencias que se comunican , entre las que destacan los salones del Espejo, de Verano, Victoria y del Obispo. En total, hay 33 dormitorios , además de salas , cocinas y baños.

La finca.
La finca, idónea para la producción vinícola, es de clima continental: Amplia oscilación térmica, con inviernos muy fríos y veranos calurosos; baja pluviometría; humedad media. En esta comarca predominan los vientos del oeste y el noroeste, que se acentúan en primavera. Lo más preciado es la marinada, que las calurosas tardes de verano llega para refrigerar la uva. Otra de las singularidades son las persistentes nieblas en invierno. La altitud media de los terrenos es de 250 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Los suelos de la propiedad son predominantemente calcáreos. Las parcelas de viñedos se sitúan en el lecho del mar interior que ocupaba buena parte de la Depresión Central durante la era Cenozoica y emplazan en suelos fértiles de composición mayoritariamente aluvial. La bodega dispone de 162 hectáreas de viñedos en propiedad. El cultivo de la mayor parte de la vid (90%) tiene lugar en viñedos de las montañas cercanas al Castillo, además altitud, entre 700 y 800 metros, sobre suelos de textura franca, francollimosa o franco, con abundante presencia de gravas, las cuales permiten un buen drenaje. En cuanto a la composición varietal, incluye las viñas autóctonas, garnacha, tempranillo, cariñena, taladrado, malvasía y macabeo, a las que se sumaron en su momento las de origen francés que Castell del Remei introdujo en la península en sus inicios, cabernet sauvignon, Shiraz, chardonnay, sauvignon Blanc. La edad media de las cepas supera los 25 años y las viñas están conducidas en espaldera, de acuerdo con el sistema de doble cordón, Royat Doble, con una densidad de plantación de entre 4.000 y 5.000 plantas / hectárea. Las instalaciones originales de la bodega comprenden una superficie total de 5.500 m 2 y están distribuidas en seis naves adosadas, construidas sobre piedra, con una estructura de hierro forjado y muros de hasta 100 cm de ancho. Actualmente, las estancias destinadas a la crianza alojan aproximadamente 1.000 barricas, de roble francés y americano, al 50%, mientras que la zona de vinificación está equipada con depósitos de acero inoxidable termoregulats, prensas neumáticas y otras herramientas técnicas de última generación que permiten elaborar anualmente más de un millón de botellas de vino.
Apuesta por la ecología.
Castell del Remei también apuesta por una gestión ecológica y sostenible de la viña y lleva a cabo una agricultura integrada. Además, se minimizan los tratamientos para favorecer el desarrollo vegetativo de las cepas.En este sentido, cabe destacar que en Castell del Remei se promueve la investigación en los ámbitos de la viticultura y la enología para apostar, además, por la ecología y por la innovación.
