La historia.
La historia de Josmeyer comienza con Aloyse Meyer, hostelero y negociante de vinos, quien decidió en 1854 proteger la explotación vinícola de su padre y convertirla en un negocio. Aloyse Meyer era un gran conocedor de las tierras alsacianas y supo apostar por los pagos que con el tiempo se convertirían en Grands Crus. Le sucedió su hijo Joseph, que vivió momentos convulsos de entreguerras y en 1941 cedió la dirección de la bodega a su hijo Hubert. Él fue quien creó la marca Josmeyer en 1963 y una red de venta en los mercados de exportación. No fue hasta la llegada del hijo de éste, Jean Meyer, formado concienzudamente en enología y viticultura en Beaune, cuando la bodega se revolucionó con ideas creativas e innovadoras. Fue un apasionado de la gastronomía y el arte, que en 1987 becó a artistas de la Escuela de Colmar para crear las etiquetas de sus vinos. Con la ayuda de Christophe Ehrhard, responsable de viticultura y director general, fue de los primeros elaboradores de Alsacia en certificar sus viñedos como biodinámicos en el año 2000. Actualmente, sus hijas Isabelle y Céline trabajan también en la bodega, la primera como enóloga y la segunda como relaciones públicas.
Sus vinos.
Josmeyer trabaja 28 hectáreas ubicadas en Wintzenheim, cerca de Colmar, donde existe un microclima excepcional, con una de las pluviometrías más bajas de Francia. Elaboran sus vinos a partir de uvas como Riesling, Pinot blanc, Auxerrois, Pinot gris, Gewürztraminer, Sylvaner, Muscat y Pinot noir. Austeridad, elegancia, finura, verticalidad... son adjetivos a menudo utilizados para definir sus vinos, caracterizados por su excelente acidez. Son vinos que tienen buena densidad, sin ser pesados, respetuosos con la naturaleza y en constante búsqueda de la identidad de cada pago. El paso del tiempo eleva estos vinos a otra categoría: "Son vinos que no hacen ruido hasta que alcanzan su madurez y lo dan todo", según explican desde propia bodega.
Viñedos Grands Crus.
Desde el principio, Josmeyer se identifica con los mejores Grands Crus de Alsacia: Brand (traducido como Fuego), plantado con Pinot gris, y Hengst, con Riesling y Gewürztraminer. El de Brand se sitúa en una ladera bien protegida, detrás de la aldea de Turkheim, con una exposición sur-sureste y suelos de granito mezclado con mica negra y gneis. Los terrenos son ricos en fosfatos con poco potasio y magnesio. Esto hace que los vinos sean puros, complejos, incisivos, con una estructura más fina que potente y una magnífica capacidad para envejecer. El de Hengst está a 360 metros sobre el nivel del mar y su suelo es calcáreo con margas, con una mezcla de calizas de los Vosgos.
