La historia de la masía.

Can Ràfols dels Caus cuenta con una de las fincas más bonitas del Penedés, situada en las cercanías de Avinyonet del Penedès, en pleno macizo montañoso del Garraf. La historia de la masía se remonta a los romanos, aunque los edificios actuales se construyeron en el siglo XVI. Carles Esteva, a comienzos de los 80, se involucró en la reestructuración de los viñedos. Plantó hasta 30 Ha. de distintas variedades: cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah, chardonnay, chenin... además de las clásicas xarel.lo, macabeo y parellada, que cultiva hoy según métodos biológicos y sin irrigación (secano) para elaborar, principalmente, vinos con buena capacidad de envejecimiento, vinos finos, con una larga crianza en botella, elegantes, capaces de transmitir la fruta, el terreno y la mano del hombre.

Orígenes y trayectoria.

La bodega Can Rafols dels Caus del Penedés, se funda en 1979, a manos de Carlos Esteva que decide ir a vivir en la finca de su abuelo, Can Ràfols dels Caus. La primera hazaña que tuvo que encomendar, fue comprarle las partes de propiedad que eran de sus hermanos y así empieza la lenta rehabilitación del noble edificio que estaba en un estado ruinoso. Fue importante, que al mismo tiempo que se rehabilitaba la finca, se regeneró de la explotación de los viñedos con nuevas variedades y nuevas formas de cultivo. Para la vinificación de los vinos de la bodega Can Ràfols dels Caus, Carlos Esteva decidió dar un gran paso hacia delante, con la construcción de una nueva bodega. Se diseño la bodega, con la finalidad de continuar investigando, con nuevas tecnologías, salas de micro-vinificaciones y una sala de crianza a nivel, para el máximo control de todos los vinos de la bodega Gran Caus.Los viñedos están situados a unos 300m de altitud, protegidos de los aires húmedos, ya que están a tan solo 15 km del mar. Debido al origen marino de la zona, podemos encontrar diferentes tipos de fósiles, en las parcelas más elevadas de las finca. La filosofía de la bodega es crear buenos vinos con producciones cortas, con la máxima naturalidad y siguiendo el curso que las cepas les aportan.
