La conexión de la familia Chivite con el vino data de 1647. Así lo atestigua un documento notarial con el que Juan Chivite Frías y su cuñada pidieron un préstamo avalando una viña y una bodega. Fundada en 1647, J. Chivite Family Estates es la firma más emblemática e histórica de la D.O. Navarra. Dirigida por una de las dinastías productoras de vino más longevas de España: los Chivite, esta firma ha liderado la evolución de los vinos navarros y hoy día disfruta de una importante proyección internacional. En las últimas décadas, Chivite ha extendido su radio de acción a Rioja, Ribera del Duero y Rueda.Desde entonces, el rastro de esta saga lo encontramos en testamentarías de transmisión de bodegas y viñas. pero fue Claudio Chivite, ya en el siglo XIX, quien inició una nueva etapa de expansión que marcó la pauta a las siguientes generaciones.
Siglo tras siglo.
Siglo XIX.
Durante la década de 1860, los viñedos franceses fueron asolados por las plagas del oídio primero y la filoxera después, que hizo descender la producción vinícola francesa a niveles inquietantes. Esta circunstancia fue aprovechada por Don Claudio para exportar sus vinos al país vecino. En 1872 construyó la bodega “La Cascajera” en una antigua cantera de piedra. La vivienda familiar se estableció en una antigua casa de postas, el Parador General, donde acudían un gran número de compradores de vino, lo que contribuyó a la prosperidad del negocio.
Siglo XX.
Ya en el siglo XX, Julián Chivite Marco puso en marcha la elaboración de vinos embotellados, así como otros cambios técnicos basados en los avances de la enología. Cuando en 1967 se crea el Consejo Regulador de los vinos de Navarra, Julián Chivite aparece como miembro fundador. Numerosos galardones fueron reconociendo su trabajo. Así, en 1992, el rey Juan Carlos I Ie hizo entrega de la Orden del Mérito Agrícola; y en 1997, a título póstumo, se le concedió la “Cruz de Carlos III Noble de Navarra”. La familia Chivite apostó fuertemente por el rosado. En 1975 lanzó por primera vez al mercado la marca Gran Feudo, que en la actualidad es la gama líder de la bodega y probablemente el rosado más famoso de España. Frente a tintos y blancos, los Chivite han sabido dar sus dotes de nobleza al rosado.
Siglo XXI.
En el año 2002 Chivite inauguró su nueva bodega, proyectada por el prestigioso arquitecto navarro Rafael Moneo. Un moderno edificio paisajístico que abraza las antiguas edificaciones de la bodega y se integra perfectamente en el paisaje. Actualmente, la familia Chivite posee 120 hectáreas de viñedos y exporta sus vinos a más de 50 países en los cinco continentes. También está presente en otras denominaciones de origen como Señorío de Arinzano (D.O. de Pago), Viña Salceda (D.O. Rioja) y Baluarte (D.O. Rueda).
