Historia y tradición.

Artazu es viñedos centenarios. Una viticultura penosa y una herencia casi perdida hacen de este proyecto la simbiosis perfecta entre lo olvidado y lo vanguardista. En 1996 iniciamos nuestra andadura en esta histórica región vitivinícola de Navarra: Artazu. Nuestra zona se define por sus suelos pardo-calizos y arcillo-calcáreos. Tierras pobres y quebradas, climatología dura y de contrastes. Costumbres y hábitos ancestrales que nos ofrecen vinos llenos de energía y autenticidad.
Una historia ligada al recuerdo y al saber hacer de nuestros antepasados, ajena a lo industrial y basada en la pasión y el respeto por el viñedo. 1985, Laguardia. Un grupo de viticultores, hombres y mujeres de pueblo con sus costumbres arraigadas y su mirada puesta en el viñedo y sus vinos, crea Artadi. En 1992 la Familia Lacalle y Laorden toma el timón del proyecto. La obsesión por el cultivo y el culto al viñedo nos condujo a descubrir expresiones capaces de dibujar la personalidad de los vinos únicos, vinos reflejo de su origen. Esa misma convicción fue la que nos llevó a proseguir la labor en 1996 en Navarra (Artazu), en 1999 en Alicante (El Sequé) y en 2015 en Guipúzcoa (Izar-Leku). Mantenemos vivas las tradiciones vitícolas de nuestros antepasados luchando contra el avance destructor que la química pone al servicio exclusivo de la industrialización y de un manejo agrícola irrespetuoso. Intentamos preservar el camino heredado para obtener el disfrute de un vino vivo, con sentimientos y espiritualidad respetuosos e integrando la naturaleza y el viñedo a nuestras propias vidas.

Procesos ecológicos-biodinámicos.

Impulsamos una viticultura respetuosa a través de prácticas de cultivo basadas en conceptos ecológicos y de sostenibilidad. Con la ausencia absoluta en nuestros viñedos de fertilizantes y sustancias químicas de síntesis, ayudamos a mantener vivo el ecosistema vitícola y a elaborar vinos llenos de vida. Consideramos al espacio de cultivo, la tierra, como un organismo vivo y dependiente del exterior. El suelo pasa a ser un enorme ser vivo en el que todas las plantas, insectos, animales u otras formas de vida forman parte de sus órganos vitales. A pesar de estar inmersos en un monocultivo, intentamos preservar la rica diversidad genética de las variedades autóctonas de uva como valioso patrimonio vitícola y así desarrollar al máximo la personalidad de nuestros vinos. Huimos de un modelo de producción agrícola industrial. Trabajamos por mantener agro-ecosistemas sostenibles con prácticas ecológicas que respeten la vida y el equilibrio natural del viñedo y el de su entorno.

El terroir.

El valor de los grandes vinos está íntimamente ligado al suelo y a sus gentes. El “Terroir” como proyecto vitícola; el respeto al patrimonio histórico, el amor a la naturaleza, la pasión por las cosas bien hechas y la personalización de nuestros vinos son los motivos por los que trabajamos cada día para redescubrir vinos sinceros. La bodega cuenta con más de 80 hectáreas de viñedos asentados sobre suelos de amplia y diversa peculiaridad. Están formados por calizas, gravas y arcillas, un puzzle edafológico marcado por una climatología de alternancia.

La bodega.

Los vinos se hacen en el viñedo y sus secretos reposan y se guardan con celo en la bodega. Entendemos la elaboración del buen vino bajo los conceptos de transformación, evolución y entropía como procesos de vida. Racimos de viñedos en equilibrio, levaduras autóctonas, ausencia de tratamientos químicos, contenidos bajo de sulfuro, trabajos por gravedad, todo con el fin de elaborar su vino siguiendo los conceptos de transformación, evolución y entropía. Confidencias que el vino guarda en cada barrica y que potencian la riqueza patrimonial de nuestros viñedos. Desde finales de 2015 la bodega no forma parte del Consejo Regulador de la D.O. Ca. Rioja, aunque no ha abandonado la elaboración de vinos en la región. Actualmente, su objetivo en Rioja es el de ofrecer vinos que reflejen lo más fidedignamente posible cada una de las comarcas, pueblos, paisajes, viñedos y parcelas que de forma diversa y diferenciadora componen el marco del gran viñedo de esta zona, tratando de dotar a todos sus vinos de valor, autenticidad y carácter diferenciador.
