El monasterio de Sant Cugat.
En una heredad, terreno dedicado al cultivo que pertenece a una sola persona, familia o entidad, con una historia milenaria se encuentran la bodega y viñedos de Segura Viudas, sobre terrenos que antiguamente pertenecieron al monasterio de Sant Cugat del Vallés, dedicados a la actividad agrícola desde el siglo XII. Recogiendo el testigo, en 1954 nace la bodega Segura Viudas. Sus 50 hectáreas de viñedos se extienden bajo la tutela del macizo de Montserrat. Viñas que son vendimiadas a mano y sus frutos transportados en cajas de 25 kg para que lleguen a bodega en perfecto estado. Actualmente, Segura Viudas (integrada en el Grupo Freixenet) elabora más de 6 millones de botellas al año entre vinos y cavas, y cuenta con numerosos galardones internacionales.
Nacimiento de una marca.
La casa Segura Viudas data del siglo XI. En un principio fue una torre de vigilancia habitada que experimentó varias ampliaciones, lo que explica la presencia de diversos estilos arquitectónicos: visigótico, románico y gótico. En el siglo XIII, la torre perdió su importancia militar y se convirtió en una masía (nombre que reciben en Cataluña las casas de campo) señorial dedicada a la explotación agrícola y vitícola. Cuando a finales del siglo XIX la región tomó conciencia del potencial de las variedades autóctonas de uva y se impulsó la aplicación del método tradicional, esta finca elaboró sus primeros vinos espumosos. Segura Viudas nació como marca en 1950, si bien no fue hasta 1969 cuando empezó a comercializar sus vinos, cuya calidad destacó desde el primer momento. Más adelante, las instalaciones fueron equipadas con tecnología avanzada que asegurara la perfección del proceso. El paso del tiempo nos ha favorecido y el notable prestigio de la marca todavía se ha acrecentado en los últimos años. Y es que difícilmente se encontraría una firma elaboradora de vinos que haya acumulado tantos reconocimientos internacionales en tan breve tiempo.
